All Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are invited to a tailgate party prior to Saturday's Southeast Missouri State University football game, as well as any boys and their parents grades 1-8 interested in joining the scouts. All scouts and their leaders will get into the game against Samford for free if they show up in uniform or a scouting T-shirt.

Prior to the game, beginning at 4:30 p.m., scouts are invited to a tailgate party including free hot dogs, chips and sodas at the First Baptist Church parking lot, which is adjacent to Houck Stadium. Boys wishing to join a Cub Scout pack or Boy Scout troop are also invited to attend with their parents. Boys that join the Scouts will receive a free T-shirt and be able to get into the game for free. The cost to join Scouts is $3.

Caring Council holds monthly meeting Friday

The Community Caring Council will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 a.m. Friday. The program will feature New Vision Youth and Family Services. Angie Gillham, psychological assistant, will talk about New Vision's individual and group counseling services.

Community Caring Council meetings are held on the third Friday of each month at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, located at 804 N. Cape Rock Drive in Cape Girardeau. These meetings are open to the public.

The council is a Caring Communities Partnership which attempts to bring together agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals to address community issues. The council is currently trying to engage more partners throughout Cape Girardeau County.

Boy Scouts planning food drive Saturday

Local Boy Scouts will be going from door-to-door this Saturday distributing empty, custom-made plastic grocery bags. The Scouts will return on Nov. 23 to collect these same bags filled with canned goods.

This effort is part of the Boy Scout's annual Scouting for Food Good Turn program, the largest single-day canned food drive in the United States. For more information, call the Boy Scouts office at 335-3346. Donations can also be taken to Lowe's in Cape Girardeau.

Holiday bazaar planned for Saturday in Rosiclare

ROSICLARE, Ill. --- The Rosiclare Improvement Committee will be holding its Holiday Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Rose Clare Craft and Antique Mall in Rosiclare.

Handmade crafts, homemade food, barbecue and door prizes will be available. Vendors are welcome. Call Kay Tolbert at (618) 285-6837 for more information.

Civil War Round Table to get together Sunday

The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Room at Hanover Lutheran Church. The church is located at 2949 Perryville Road in Cape Girardeau.

The program will consist of two short videos. One prepared by Dr. John Y. Simon of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale's history department will discuss "The Civil War in Southern Illinois." Another presentation by James Pickett Jones of Florida State University will be on the "Life of John A. Logan."
