- Unpublished photos from the 1949 tornadoIn April 2019, Linda Sanders donated photographs of the aftermath of the May 21, 1949, tornado to the Southeast Missourian's archive. The photos, never publish, were taken by her aunt, Maxine Lincoln Blackshear, a resident of the Red Star suburb in 1949. All of the photos were taken in Red Star, but their exact locations aren't known. Most of the 22 killed in the tornado were found in the Red Star district.

John Hayden was featured in a picture page in the Sunday, May 19, 1974, edition of the Southeast Missourian. Four photographs were published with the article, but photographer Gordon L. McBride shot about two rolls of the officer. Here are a few images that didn't make it into print.

- Chaffee welcomes home Seger and Angie RuizAfter 6 months of being gone Seger Ruiz and his mother Angie were welcomed back to Chaffee by community members. Seger and his mother were given an escort by local firefighters and police officers for a the homecoming while dozens of community members cheered, clapped and held up their handwritten signs. Ruiz was in a three car accident in September on Nash Road.He was a passenger of one of the vehicles and sustained severe injuries. Ruiz was flown to St. Louis for treatment and later sent to Chicago for therapy.
