Markham Vineyards calls for grant applicants

Local leaders dedicated to improving their neighborhoods, cities or towns are invited to participate in a nationwide initiative by Markham Vineyards of St. Helena, Calif., to award $25,000 grants to two individuals to assist them in completing neighborhood projects. Those interested can enter by visiting www.MarkhamMarkofDistinction.com by June 15. In July, 10 finalists and their dream projects will be selected and posted on the Web site. The public will then vote to determine two winners who will be awarded $25,000 each to make a change in their communities.

Angel Food ministries taking new orders

Confederate Memorial Day event set for May 31

A Confederate Memorial Day service, sponsored by the John T. Coffee Camp No. 1934 Missouri Sons of Confederate Veterans, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Davidson State Historic Site at Pilot Knob, Mo. The service will include a tribute to the fallen Confederate soldiers buried there.

June 7 is youth catch and release day

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, Cape Jaycees and Missouri Conservation Department will sponsor the 20th annual Youth Catch and Release Fishing Day from 8:30 to 11 a.m. June 7 at Capaha Lagoon. The event is for children ages 1 to 15. Bring poles and bait. There will be prizes for the biggest and smallest fish and a casting contest. Lunch will be provided for all participants by the Jaycees. Crader family reunion planned June 8

The Crader family reunion will begin at 9 a.m. June 8 at Shelter No. 3 in Cape County Park North. The cemetery board meeting is at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch. An auction to benefit the cemetery will follow. Bring food to share, table service, soft drinks and chairs. Don't forget to bring homemade items for the auction. Poplar Bluff High School plans class reunion

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — The Poplar Bluff High School graduating classes of 1962, '63 and '64 will hold a combined reunion from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 26, the weekend of Mules football 2008 Homecoming. Reunion activities start with a Sept. 26 gathering at the Chamber of Commerce offices near the corner of Pine Street and Business Route 67, followed by a dinner and dance at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at American Legion Post 153 on Highway PP (2320 Kanell Blvd.). The Sept. 26 event is free. Tickets are required for other events.
