LETTERS: BASEBALL'S HABITS ARE A TURNOFF
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/24/97)
To the editor: As a child in the late 1940s and early 1950s, I sometimes would join my grandfather listening to St. Louis Cardinals baseball games over WKRO in Cairo before Harry Caray and August Busch parted company. As I grew up, I played Rotary League baseball in spite of being asthmatic at the time. Having outgrown my asthma by the time I reached school age, baseball was the only sport I went out for. I was never much good at the game, but that was not the point. I like baseball...

STIFF PENALTIES COULD SPUR AUTO INSURANCE
(Editorial ~ 10/24/97)
Taking financial responsibility for owning a motor vehicle in Missouri is still too often ignored. State officials estimate that more than 7 percent of the vehicles licensed in Missouri aren't insured. This is a best guess, because vehicles aren't required to be registered at the same address where they are insured...

LETTERS: MEMORIES PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE
(Letter to the Editor ~ 10/24/97)
To the editor: Memories have played an important role in our lives. As one grows older, it seems that the mental slippage may become a bit more acute, yet we have known elderly people who seem to be living history books. Their mental acuity never fades. We admire them just as we do the athlete who can accomplish physical feats which seem incredible. We may even become jealous of the nonagenarian who has seemed to remember everything...
