FROM THE PULPIT: GOD IS WITH US THROUGH IT ALL
(Column ~ 12/07/97)
One night this week one of our kids came to us and said that she was having trouble getting to sleep because she was thinking about the drill that they had at school that day about what to do if someone should come into the room with a gun. I was glad that the school was being diligent about the matter and then very sad that we live in a world where kids have to know about such things...

KINDER'S COMMENTARY: RENO AND COMPANY SHOULD BE AMONG TOP CAMPAIGN ISSUES
(Column ~ 12/07/97)
Americans, we are told, shrugged their shoulders and yawned when told the news. The news, that is, that Attorney General Janet Reno decided not to seek appointment of an independent counsel to probe the manifest corruption in the great Clinton-Gore conspiracy to violate existing campaign-finance laws and subvert American elections with foreign money. This supposed indifference is a fact, if you believe this week's Gallup poll. Perhaps...

LETTERS: DEBATE ON GLOBAL WARMING? YOU BET!
(Letter to the Editor ~ 12/07/97)
To the editor: I read with great interest Peter Kinder's commentary on global warming in the Nov. 30 issue of the Southeast Missourian. He has touched on a hot issue whose resolution will affect society far into the future. However, his remarks fall short of his goal to get the facts. I believe that my chemical engineering degree allows me to understand this issue far better than most politicians...

CONGREST MUST DO WHAT RENO WOULDN'T
(Editorial ~ 12/07/97)
Attorney General Janet Reno surprised almost no one last week when she announced her long-awaited decision against appointing an independent counsel to investigate President Clinton, Vice President Gore and Energy Secretary Hazel O'Leary. To say the least, throughout her tortured deliberations -- and now with her decision -- she has distinguished neither herself nor the badly tarnished administration she serves...

MISSOURI WATCH: MISSOURI HARMED BY DORMANT DILEMMAS
(Column ~ 12/07/97)

SPEAKOUT
(Speak Out ~ 12/07/97)
I READ in the paper that HUD rental assistance pays $565 a month. HUD pays $470 and the tenant has to pay $95. That is way over what I can afford or what I pay to rent. You can see in the paper there are a lot of houses for $250 or less. At $565 a month, you can rent a house worth over $70,000. I know a landlord who is renting to HUD and keeps buying more houses, so he sure is making a lot of money. I wish HUD would explain in your paper why it pays so high to rent a house...

STE. GENEVIEVE -- November was a month of mixed blessings for those overseeing this city's $48.7 million flood control project. Genevieve during the great Flood of 1993...
