Alex Kavanaugh with St. Louis County Police Department, a trafficker is more likely to engage with a vulnerable young person online via social media, find out what the target wants and offer it...

But with the right choices, says interior designer Gabriel Anderson, you can have an exceptional master bath without overspending. "Having huge expanses of marble is amazing and wonderful, but you don't have to have that to have an amazing bathroom," says Anderson, co-founder of the New York design firm Dean and Dahl. There are "little touches you can incorporate that really bring a master bath to life."...

A lesson from the death of Sears
(Column ~ 01/12/19)
With the Christmas season over, observant Christians turn their attention forward to Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday on March 6. It's mental gymnastics to veer from Jesus' birth to dealing with death so quickly. Life is like this, though. Conversations at funeral homes sometimes include the statement: "I was just talking to him at the supermarket and here we are at his wake. Wow." Although we know better, we somehow expect that people will go on living indefinitely...

Hate isn't the opposite of love
(Column ~ 01/12/19)
Hate causes a lot of pain in the world. It causes damage to others and ourselves. I don't think hate is the opposite of love, though. No. It is a mask to hide behind what we really mean, a way to justify our anger so we can stay angry, rather than doing the hard work of healing. ...

Some days are special
(Column ~ 01/12/19)
About a week ago I woke up like normal and really didn't feel any different than the day before except I was a year older. Had a couple of cups of coffee like usual and then breakfast like normal. Fed our big butcher steers their grain and our young steers their grain as well. My high tunnel cats and barn cats were acting like they were starving so I put out some food for them. Checked the water for the steers and the chores were done just like normal. But it was my birthday...
