Fresh paint

Fresh paint can go a long way toward making something old look new again.

Members of the Baptist Student Union at Southeast Missouri State University recently treated some houses in Cape Girardeau to a new look. With paint donated by merchants, the group painted six houses in the 500 block of South Benton Street. The hope was to give the fixer-uppers a new sparkle and the low-income area a new attitude.

The grateful residents were either too old to climb on ladders to paint their own houses or couldn't afford to pay painters. Each chose the color they wanted their house painted.
