Sowers Puts "Boots on the Ground" for the 100-Mile

Tommy Sowers

This year, Eighth District Congressional Candidate Tommy Sowers will road march the entire length of the 12th Annual "100 Mile Yard Sale" on foot. Missouri's Eighth District celebrates Memorial Day weekend by holding the "100 Mile Yard Sale" along Missouri State Highway 25, from Jackson to Kennett. The 4-day event begins on Thursday, May 27 and stretches for nearly 100 miles, passing through over a dozen towns.

Tommy will be marching with voters, listening to their concerns, holding events, and conducting media interviews. This walk is roughly the length of entire state of Delaware, or the distance from New York City to Philadelphia. He will start at the Brookside Veteran's Memorial Wall in Jackson at 7 am Thursday morning and cover roughly 25 miles a day until finishing Sunday evening at the Veteran's Monument near the Dunklin County courthouse in Kennett.

"After serving in the Special Forces in Iraq, I am looking forward to getting back on a road march," said Sowers, who served two tours of duty in the country. "Just as I did during our Boots on the Ground operation, I expect I'll continue to hear the demand for new blood in DC."

Sowers will be providing frequent updates on Facebook and Twitter of his progress along the 100 mile road march. Starting on Thursday morning, Sowers's schedule as well as photos and videos from the road can be found at www.sowersforcongress.com/100mile.

Sowers continued, "Memorial Day holds a special significance for everyone connected with the military. I am marching the 100 Mile Yard Sale in honor of our veterans. I'm also looking forward to marching with anyone who wants to talk about what they expect from their representative in Congress. Just call my campaign and we'll come meet you."

Sowers, an 11-year Army Special Forces veteran, is running for Congress against incumbent Jo Ann Emerson, a former insurance lobbyist from Washington, DC. Tommy Sowers is the Democratic candidate for Missouri's 8th Congressional district and does not face opposition in the primary. During the first quarter of 2010, Sowers outraised Emerson by over $70,000, with 99% of his contributions coming from individuals. Emerson will face a Republican primary challenger, cattle rancher Bob Parker, in August.

Sowers can be found on these stretches of Hwy 25 over the 4 day period.
