Car enthusiasts ready to rev their engines

The temperature is increasing; daylight is lasting longer and buds are blooming. You know what that means:

It's time for car shows.

The Cape Girardeau Capaha Antique Car Club is revving up for its 53rd year with events scheduled throughout the year. Cruisin' Uptown Jackson is scheduled for the courthouse square at 5 p.m. Saturday. The event is held the second Saturday of the month in April through September. On July 4, there will be a big competition at the July 4 celebration in Jackson.

The club loves its cars, but the group loves the camaraderie of being around other people just as much. The group also gives a moderate scholarship to a student who is pursuing training in automotive work.

If you like old cars, consider checking out the Capaha Antique Car Club. You don't have to own an old car to join in on the fun. If nothing else, take some time to take in some of the old cars, and their owners, at one of the cruise events in Jackson over the summer.

People in this area have all sorts of passions. This one mixes a bit of history with horsepower. Thanks to the club members and all those who share a bit of their passion with the rest of us.
