Dr. Bruce Skinner was appointed to the Show Me Center and River Campus Board of Managers by Southeast Missouri State University’s Board of Governors on Tuesday to complete Dr. Brad Sheriff’s terms that expire Dec. 1, 2025, and Dec. 1, 2026, respectively.

Skinner, SEMO’s associate vice president for Student Life, has spent the past 26 years at the university, beginning his career in the Office of Residence Life as a graduate student. He has served in his current role since 2017 where he is responsible for overseeing nine directors who supervise the department’s staff.

Sheriff’s seats were left vacant after the former vice president of Finance and Administration left the university at the end of March.

“I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve the campus and Cape Girardeau community through my appointment to the Show Me Center and River Campus Board of Managers,” Skinner said. “The presence of these two venues, operated by the university, provides benefits to our students and the Southeast Missouri and Southern Illinois region.

“As much of my work is with our students, I look forward to seeing where my contact with our student body can be leveraged to assist the many shows, concerts, performances, and events hosted by the Show Me Center and River Campus.”

The Show Me Center and River Campus Board of Managers supervise their respective facilities and propose written policies for their use.

Agreements between SEMO and the City of Cape Girardeau for both the Show Me Center and St. Vincent Seminary property, where the River Campus resides, calls for the City Council and Board of Governors to each appoint three members to both Boards of Managers who serve three-year terms.

Skinner joins Rhonda Weller-Stilson, dean of the Holland College of Arts and Media, and Brad Koester, major gift officer for University Advancement, as the university’s representatives for the River Campus, and will serve with assistant director of Athletics for Facilities and Event Management Kent Phillips and Sports Management instructor Alicia Scott on the Show Me Center board.

City representatives for the River Campus board include city manager Dr. Kenneth Haskins, Southeast Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Dr. Sophia Han and manager of hotel capital planning at Drury Southwest Inc. Danielle Poyner. The Show Me Center board is represented by Haskins, Arlo Ehly, staff accompanist for the Dobbins Conservatory of Theatre and Dance, and John McGowan, assistant vice president of commercial banking at Commerce Bank.
