Darieth Nunley

Police officers Tuesday morning, June 25, arrested a Cape Girardeau man allegedly in possession of 200 grams of fentanyl, suspected cocaine, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department and the SEMO Drug Task Force arrested Darieth Nunley, 32, according to a news release issued by the Cape Girardeau PD. The Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney’s office charged Nunley with the Class B felony of second-degree trafficking, the Class C felony of delivery of a controlled substance and the Class D felony of unlawful possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 cash-only bond.

According to the probable-cause document filed with the court, an officer conducting a narcotics investigation learned that Nunley was selling fentanyl. As law enforcement officers executed a search warrant, Nunley ran out a back door. Officers were able to detain Nunley and the backpack he had discarded. The backpack contained the drugs and paraphernalia, the probable-cause document stated.

Officers also found a loaded 9 mm pistol with an extended magazine.

Nunley has an extensive criminal history. At the time of his arrest, he was on probation in Missouri for the Class D felony possession of a controlled substance and had a suspended imposition of sentence of six years. As a convicted felon, he is forbidden from possessing firearms. In 2015, he was sentenced for the Class C felony of tampering with a motor vehicle. Nunley spent 30 days in jail after a fourth-degree domestic assault in 2018. He pleaded guilty to driving while revoked or suspended in 2018.
