Cape Girardeau Public Schools Board of Education member Missy Phegley was recognized at the Missouri School Boards Association’s Summer Summit for receiving the organization’s advanced and master certification.

According to a news release from the MSBA, a candidate is required to complete mandatory annual refresher training, an additional 12 hours of training, read two school board-related books and write a brief reflection paper relating to their study to receive advanced certification. To earn the master certification, a candidate must complete another 12 hours of training, read two more books, attend at least two MSBA meetings during the year and write a second reflection paper connecting their studies to their school district’s governance practices.

Phegley has served on Cape’s school board since 2020 and was board president during the 2023-24 school year.

The MSBA recognizes local school board members who pursue “additional learning opportunities beyond the legally required school board training.”
