Joyce Stinson

Joyce Louise Stinson, 88, of Jackson passed away Monday, July 22, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Gosnell, Arkansas, daughter of Lucian Foster and Minnie Bell Powers Calvert. She and Carl Stinson were married May 21, 1954. They had been married nearly 62 years when Carl passed away May 11, 2016.

Joyce was one of nine children. She graduated from Risco High School in 1954. After she and Carl married, they moved to Lake Charles Air Force Base, while he served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1956, they moved to Granite City, Illinois, for his job at McDonnell Douglas. In 1969, they moved to Marble Hill and then to Jackson.

Joyce worked at Lee Rowan while raising her family. She was very involved with her church, First Baptist Church of Millersville. She volunteered for many years at Southeast Hospital. She loved her family and cherished the holiday time spent together.

Loving survivors include her six children, Michael (Kathryn) Stinson and Sharon Stinson of Jackson, David (Lilian) Stinson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sandra Stinson of Jackson, Paul (Lea) Stinson of Melbourne, Florida, and Daniel (Natalie) Stinson of Caseyville, Illinois; eight grandchildren, April Stinson of Marble Hill, Shannon (Leann) Stinson of Jackson, Jenny Stinson of Los Angeles, Megan Stinson of Anaheim, California, Joshua (Jenna) of Alpharetta, Georgia, Madeleine (Chris) Briley of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jake Stinson of Melbourne and Jacob Stinson of Caseyville; a great-grandchild, Theo Stinson, and another great-grandchild due in November; two sisters, Peggy June Hargrove of Grayslake, Illinois, and Mallie Stinson of Clever; and a brother, Fred (Lori) Calvert of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Stinson; three brothers, C.L., Walter and Lucian Calvert; and two sisters, Jewel Carper and Linda Nelson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be at noon Thursday, July 25, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

The family suggests contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Millersville.
