SEMO Law Enforcement Academy applications due Friday, July 26

Those interested in attending Southeast Missouri State University’s Law Enforcement Academy during the fall semester must apply by Friday, July 26.

SEMO’s Law Enforcement Academy offers 600 hours of training, mandated by the Missouri Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) program, as well as DMT Intox Type III certification, patrol rifle certification, TASER certification, sexual harassment prevention and reporting, and the law enforcement hiring process. Students may also train on traffic radar use and defensive tactics.

Prospective students can pursue a bachelor’s degree or a certificate in law enforcement. Students who choose the certificate program may access financial aid and earn 18 credit hours toward a bachelor’s degree. Either choice leads to receiving a Class “A” Missouri Peace Officer’s License.

The Law Enforcement Academy’s classes begin Monday, Aug. 5, two weeks before regular SEMO classes begin Monday, Aug. 19. Students must also apply for admission to SEMO regardless of which program they choose.

Applications may be submitted in person or by mail to the SEMO Law Enforcement Academy. Prospective students’ background checks are also due by Friday for consideration for the program.
