Cape Girardeau police officers arrested a Scott City man in connection with an alleged stolen package and found methamphetamine in his car while he was being apprehended Thursday, Aug. 8.

Tyler Golden, 27, was stopped Thursday while driving after a police officer used Flock technology to find Golden’s vehicle’s license plate, according to a probable-cause statement. Probable-cause statements described that police searched for the vehicle after they received a report of a package being stolen July 30 in Jackson and were given video footage of the incident that showed the man leaving in a “silver Infiniti passenger car.”

The July 30 probable cause stated police were able to find the license plate belonging to the car using Flock technology. After finding the plate, police checked Department of Revenue records for Golden and were able to identify him by his license photo as the man in the video.

“Despite being given several chances and currently being on Probation, Tyler (Golden) continues to commit crimes such as the incident described above of stealing postal and delivery items,” the July 30 probable cause stated.

According to the document, Golden received three guilty convictions for possession of drugs since 2014, and in January was also found guilty of burglary.

When police stopped Golden on Thursday, as the police officer was reading Golden his “Miranda warning”, Golden allegedly stated that there was a broken methamphetamine pipe in his car, according to the Aug. 8 probable-cause statement. The document stated that after the car was searched, police found a black bag that contained the broken pipe.

“Upon further examination of the bag a plastic baggie was located which contained approximately 1 gram of a crystal-like substance,” the Aug. 8 probable cause stated. “I field-tested both the broken end of the glass pipe and the crystal-like substance and both items field-tested positive for methamphetamine.”

According to a July 28 probable-cause statement, a Best Buy employee “initiated” a police report that stated a suspect who was identified by the Cape Girardeau Police Department as Golden allegedly stole from the car electronics aisle of the Best Buy store.

“A suspect entered the store and went to the Car Electronics, took a Kicker from the shelf and walked to another aisle where he took the Amplifier from the box and put it in his pants,” the July 28 probable cause stated.

According to the document, Golden allegedly left the store without paying with a “Kicker-cx 400w class d digital mono amplifier w/ variable low-pass crossover” valued at $200. The document stated Golden was identified by a police officer whose name is redacted reviewing booking photos and noticing an “exact match to the suspect in the photos provided by the reporting party.”

Golden is being held on a $32,500 bond.
