Engage, learn, dance: What to expect at next week’s TBY Expo

The TBY (The Best Years) Active Living Expo, an annual event aimed at engaging and educating seniors, is set to return next week.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Century Casino Cape Girardeau, 777 Main St. The expo aims to provide a day of learning, interaction and activities for seniors.

The doors will open at 8 a.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the presentation of colors to start the day. The schedule includes a variety of workshops, classes and demonstrations.

Attendees can look forward to some physical activities such as cardio drumming and ballroom dancing demonstrations to more hands-on activities with the Cape Girardeau Public Library doing all-day craft sessions making items such as personalized bookmarks. Saint Francis Healthcare System, the presenting sponsor, also will give a presentation during the expo.

Each workshop and class is designed to be interactive and educational. The Alzheimer’s Association will not only discuss Alzheimer’s disease, but also provide information on how to get involved with the organization’s awareness walk event.

The Cape Girardeau County Archive Center will guide attendees in narrating their family history, offering insights into preserving personal legacies. The Better Business Bureau’s session will equip seniors with the knowledge to avoid scams, a crucial skill in today’s digital age. There also will be a vendor market featuring various vendors offering health screenings and information on services relevant to seniors. This market aims to provide attendees with resources and information to enhance their well-being.

The TBY Expo is free to attend, and no registration is required. All activities and vendor offerings are free of charge, making it accessible for all seniors. The event encourages seniors to attend, engage and enjoy a day filled with learning and interaction.
