Brazilian trombonist Felipe Brito will debut his album, "Não Deixe para Amanhã" ("Don’t Put Off Until Tomorrow") Saturday, Aug. 24 at Scout Hall in Cape Girardeau.

Brito’s album, set for official release in the U.S. on Sept. 6, is a blend of modern jazz and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, integrating samba, bossa nova, maracatu and alujá with contemporary jazz, "creating a sound that is both innovative and deeply rooted in cultural heritage', according to a news release.

He recorded the album last year while in Brazil with some help from his friends, some of whom have won Latin Grammy awards — sound engineer Adonias Junior, saxophonist Raphael Ferreira, pianist Fabio Leandro and drummer Rodrigo Bras — and Brazilian superstar Jackson Silva (bass).

“This album is a reflection of my journey and the diverse musical influences that have shaped me,” Brito stated in the press release. “I wanted to create something that honors my roots while pushing the boundaries of jazz.”

Brito is not only a musician but also an educator. He serves as the assistant professor of trombone and director of jazz studies at Southeast Missouri State University. He is also the development director at Amistad Caribbean Arts Camp in Cleveland. His performance history spans orchestral, jazz, commercial, studio and solo work in cities such as St. Louis; Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee; Chicago; Austin, Texas; and São Paulo, Brazil.

Brito's educational background is extensive. He holds degrees from The State University of Campinas in Brazil, Indiana University, Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Texas at Austin. His teaching philosophy is driven by a deep belief in the genuine connection made through music, he stated in the press release.

“Music is a powerful tool for connection and education,” Brito said. “I strive to share this interaction with audiences and students of all ages and backgrounds.”

This event is the start of a Jazz series collaboration between Brito and Scout Hall that will span several months, inviting local, national and international artists to perform at the hall.

Doors will open at 7 p.m., the show starting at 7:30 p.m., at the venue, 420 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. Tickets are available in various categories: student general admission, $10; general admission, $15; and a table for four, $72. Attendees must present a valid student ID for student tickets.
