Jackson man sentenced for selling fentanyl to fatal overdose victim

Dylan C. McMikle, 22, of Jackson was sentenced to 10 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp on Tuesday, Aug. 20, for selling fentanyl to a person who suffered a fatal overdose.

McMikle sold “several lines of powdered fentanyl” to a 25-year-old person who died of an overdose in the evening after snorting the drugs on the morning of Dec. 16, 2022, according to an office of the United States attorney news release. The release stated the person left McMikle’s home after buying the drugs and was struggling with addiction.

“After the victim’s death, investigators found messages between the victim and McMikle about obtaining fentanyl. McMikle consented to a search of his home and officers found a small baggie of fentanyl powder and several fentanyl pills,” the release stated. “Another man pleaded guilty last year and admitted buying fentanyl from McMikle.”

The Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force and the Drug Enforcement Administration investigated the case and Assistant United States Attorney Jack Koester did the prosecution for the government.
