Jackie Ray Hamm, 80, of Scott City died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 16, 1944, in Commerce to William Avery and Dorothy Elizabeth Walter Hamm. He married Margaret Ann Sebright on Jan. 15, 1966, and she preceded him in death April 19, 2010.

Jackie was an engineer for the Cotton Belt and Union Pacific Railroad for 36 years and six months, retiring in 2004. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Scott City, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and former local chairman for Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Division No. 442. He served in the Missouri National Guard from 1964 to 1970.

He is survived by two sons, Jackie (Karen) Hamm Jr. and Michael (Misty) Hamm of Scott City; daughter, Jill (Barry) Spooler of Millersville; two brothers, Glen (Nancy) Hamm and Mark (Brenda) Hamm of Scott City; two sisters-in-law, Martha Hamm and Mary Ann Hamm; seven grandchildren, Andrea (Austin) Craft, Ray Hamm, Travis (Brooke) Hamm, David Hamm, Megan (Blake) Oldson, Devan Spooler and Ethan Spooler; and three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Gwen and Nora.

Jackie was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Doug, Roger and Bruce Hamm; and a sister-in-law, Shelby Hamm.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeremy Sells officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
