Gas prices plunge over the week

Gasoline prices took a significant tumble over the past week, with the average unleaded fuel cost falling seven cents nationally and eight cents in Missouri to $3.36 and $3.08 a gallon, respectively.

Diesel prices saw a smaller drop — $3.71 per gallon nationally and $3.38 per gallon in Missouri.

Southwest Missouri has among the cheapest prices in the state, while the central and northeast portions of the state continue to be where fuel is the most expensive. Nationally, seven states have averages at or below $3 a gallon, all in the southern part of the country. The west coast remains the most expensive region for drivers.

County averages Sunday (per AAA)

• Bollinger: $3.11;

• Cape Girardeau: $3.09;

• Perry: $3.06;

• Scott: $3.13.

Price ranges Sunday (per GasBuddy)

• Cape Girardeau: $2.97 to $2.99;

• Jackson: $2.99 to $3.19;

• Marble Hill: $3.09;

• Perryville: $2.99 to $3.19;

• Scott City: $3.17 to $3.19.
