Loil “Red” Winiford Tinsley, 94, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at the Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Oct. 1, 1929, to William and Hazel Dailey Tinsley in McClure, Illinois. On Aug. 22, 1953, he married Mary Lois Newell. They’ve spent over 71 years together, and she survives.

Loil proudly served in the United States Army. He worked in the grocery business as a meat cutter and then eventually owned two grocery stores and a shoe store in Tamms, Illinois.

Along with his wife, Mary, he is survived by his son, Gary D. (Teresa) Tinsley; daughter, Kimberly R. (Terry) McKee; grandsons, Brooks Hente, Dustin Hente, Zachary Snyder, Austin Snyder, Chris McKee and Nathan McKee; granddaughters, Jessica Wallace and Heather Romage; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Diane Honkala and Linda Tinsley; and brother, Farrell Tinsley.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Mary Ann Adams, Brenda Tinsley and Marita Kay Tinsley; brothers, Frank Tinsley, Harold Tinsley, Lee Tinsley, Harry Eugene Tinsley, Herschel Tinsley, Ronnie Tinsley and Redis Tinsley.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, at the funeral home, with Pastor Terry McKee officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow the funeral at St. John’s Cemetery in Dongola, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be given to the Cape Girardeau Veterans Home. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
