Cape Girardeau man arrested for alleged burglary, resisting arrest

A Cape Girardeau man was arrested for alleged burglary and domestic assault as well as resisting arrest Monday, Sept. 2.

According to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Offices’ probable-cause statement, while a patrolman was responding to a burglary he saw Jason Hooker, 42, “hastily” walking off of the front porch of a home. The patrolman described Hooker as starting to sprint away from the car’s location as the vehicle stopped.

According to the probable cause, the patrolman ordered Hooker to stop running since he believed Hooker was an alleged suspect in the burglary. The probable cause stated Hooker allegedly didn’t comply with the patrolman even after pursuing him on foot.

“I was now in close proximity to Hooker and had drawn my department-issued taser, serial# X400IDN27. I ordered Hooker to lay on his stomach to which he still failed to comply. Hooker then began running at an angle toward me at which time I discharged my taser one time for a full five-second cycle. The taser did not give the desired effect; however, Hooker stated he would get on the ground,” the probable cause stated.

Hooker allegedly began to comply and was taken into custody.

The alleged burglary victim told the patrolman she was in her house lying in bed with her two kids when she heard the sound of glass breaking. After that, Hooker allegedly came into the victim’s bedroom before she could get up and accused her of “talking to other men,” according to the probable cause.

As the victim and Hooker began to argue, he took her phone and walked through the residence. The probable cause stated the woman went to her nearby neighbors after this, the neighbors spoke to Hooker and he left the home and sat on the porch.

According to the probable cause, the victim believed Hooker had broken a window in her residence. Once she walked back into her bedroom with her phone, she heard a door open again, the probable cause stated.

“(Redacted) stated that when she exited the bedroom Hooker again confronted her and poked her in the eye. (Redacted) stated another argument ensued, during which time Hooker repeatedly punched her in the back of her head with a closed fist. (Redacted) explained that while striking her in the back of the head, Hooker pried her Apple I Phone XR. valued at $300.00, from her hands and placed it on his person,” the probable cause stated.

According to the victim in the probable-cause statement, she was able to “get away” to her neighbor’s home and call 911.

The probable cause stated the victim’s cellphone was found in the place Hooker was arrested and the patrolman observed the window and believed it was broken into from the outside of the residence.

Hooker is being held on a $25,000 bond.
