Judith A. “Judy” Mangels, 81, of Jackson passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at her home.

The eldest daughter and second of 11 children, Judy was born Oct. 9, 1942, in Hilderbrand to John and Bertha Schemel Laurentius.

She was a 1960 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.

She and Curtis R. Mangels were married Jan. 9, 1965, at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle.

Judy’s employment included Jackson Hosiery Mill, International Shoe factory in Jackson and the Florsheim Shoe factory in Cape Girardeau. She enjoyed flower gardening and canning produce from Curt’s vegetable garden. She was most passionate about her grandchildren and enthusiastically attended any event they participated in.

Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years, Curt Mangels of Jackson; three children, Julia (Mark) Fallert of Ste. Genevieve, Kim (Stuart) Dohogne of Cape Girardeau and Scott (Beth) Mangels of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Ethan and Anna Fallert, Meghan (Max) Jaben, Ben, Lily and Jon Dohogne, Ella and Evan Mangels; a great-grandson, Kai Jaben; siblings, Gerald (Mary) Laurentius, Jane Laurentius, Karen (Larry) Baer, JoAnn (David) Lang, Rick (Laura) Laurentius, Debbie (Paul) Young and Vicki (Stanley) Newsome; Curt’s siblings, Verlin (Martha) Mangels, Ron (Patricia) Mangels, Wesley (Linda) Mangels and Alice (Mike) O’Leary; sister-in-law, Bonnie (late Percy) Mangels; several cousins; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Schemel Laurentius; siblings, Sandy (Kenny) Koehler, Robert (Rita) Laurentius and Bill Laurentius; Curt’s parents, Herbert and Lilly Koch Mangels; and Curt’s siblings, Percy (Pat) Mangels and Sharon (Donnie) Cairns.

A memorial visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Later, Judy will privately be inurned in the columbarium at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests the American Cancer Society.
