Cape Girardeau police announce special traffic plans for 2024 SEMO District Fair

Saturday, Sept. 7, the Cape Girardeau Police Department will be implementing special traffic arrangements for the 2024 SEMO District Fair for vehicles entering and exiting the Arena Park area according to a news release.

There will be “No Parking” signs around Arena Park on Friday, Sept. 6, and the change will be enforced starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday. Any vehicles parked in a “No Parking” or “Restricted Parking” area will be towed away at the owner’s expense, and a traffic ticket may be issued.

“No Parking” signs will be placed in Capaha Park, North West End Boulevard, and Perry Avenue to restrict parking on Friday, Sept. 6.

On Saturday, Capaha Park will be closed beginning at 6 a.m., and the fair parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. Only vehicles used in the parade will be allowed inside the park.

Participants can be dropped off at the intersection of West End Boulevard. and Normal Street at the park entrance. Parade entries must enter Capaha Park from Broadway and Perry. No southbound traffic will be allowed at Perry and Dunklin Street. Subjects who drive around barricades may be ticketed.

West End Boulevard will be closed between Broadway and Normal Street at 7 a.m. to allow the parade to form. Broadway west of West End Boulevard, Kingshighway between Broadway and Cape Rock Drive and Kingshighway from Hopper Road to Kiwanis Drive will be closed during the parade.

In addition to the parade parking, only those there for official police or court business may park at police headquarters, 2540 Maria Louise Lane, and Municipal Court, 2536 Maria Louise Lane, during the duration of the fair Sept. 7-14.
