Cape woman arrested on warrant for failure to appear, allegedly found in possession of methamphetamine

A Cape Girardeau woman was arrested Friday, Sept. 6, by Cape Girardeau police officers on a warrant for failure to appear in court, and while being apprehended, the police allegedly found the woman in possession of methamphetamine.

Candace Presson, 39, failed to appear in court for a hearing on a municipal ordinance violation Aug. 20. According to Presson’s case history, a warrant was issued for her arrest the day after she failed to appear in court.

According to a probable-cause statement, while an officer was on patrol they observed Presson traveling through a parking lot. The probable cause stated the officer knew Presson had an active warrant for her arrest and then placed her in restraints once making contact with her.

"Upon her warrant being confirmed, Presson requested to hand the property which was on her body to a subject she was with. Presson attempted to hand over a crushed cigarette box however she was stopped," the probable cause stated.

The officer stated in the documents that after testing the contents of the box it tested positive for methamphetamine.

Presson is being held on a $25,000 bond.
