  • Although other sports may allow you to increase your physical and mental awareness, swimming is superior because the total body sensation of the water. Some people do not even think about it. You are cradled, soothed and energized just from that alone. I like to identify that feeling and draw from it.

  • Ms Jane, your words, cradled, soothed and energized perfectly describe swimming. Author Lynn Sherr quotes Dr. Baynard, from his poem "Health," 1764 "Of exercises, swimming's best, Strengthens the muscles and the chest..." I also think that swimming helps you feel connected to something that is larger than yourself.
