T.J. Maxx to open this fall in Cape

The most common question I've been asked since becoming the business reporter at The Southeast Missourian has been, "Is T.J. Maxx really coming to Cape?"

After months of speculation and rumors, T.J. Maxx spokesperson Thea Houghton has just confirmed to me that her company recently signed a lease for a new store in Cape Girardeau that will open here this fall.

T.J. Maxx will be moving into the former Goody's Family Clothing location on Siemers Drive, which has been vacant for the past 14 months, said Mark Kohl manager of real estate and development with Drury Land Development.

Goody's occupied 28,000 square-feet in the shopping center owned by Drury Land Development.

T.J. Maxx has more than 800 stores nation-wide and is known for offering name-brand clothing, accessories and home decor at discount prices.

FINALLY, AFTER WRITING TO THE COMPANY AND LETTING THEM SHARE HOW WELL ONE OF THERE STORES WILL DO IN CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. IS A GREAT MOVE. I HAVE LIVED IN THE SOUTH FOR SOME YEARS AGO. NOW, BACK HOME TO THE AREA. I KNOW THE COMPANY WILL BE PLEASED. I HAVE YET TO SEE ONE OF THE TJ MAX STORES MOVE OUT AFTER MOVING IN. I for one am thrilled about this! I was getting tired of not looking like white trash. Nothing worse than people thinking you have some self-respect or dignity. With my new wardrobe from TJ Maxx, maybe they'll let me be on Jerry Springer now!

Not sure how often you've been in TJ Maxx (if ever), but they carry mostly designer brands in clothing, home products and health & beauty products that have been shipped from boutique stores and department stores. I've found Abercrombie, Express and Seven For All Mankind jeans pretty cheap at TJ Maxx in the past. But if you'd prefer to stay out of their store, that's one less person I'll have to deal with while I'm shopping.

I guess the above posters are really showing their lack of intelligence, aren't they? TJ Maxx does carry nothing but upscale items that are overstocked. Trust me, there is nothing wrong with them at all. I for one, am glad they won't be shopping there... that means MORE FOR ME!!!

I went a few weeks ago, got a calvin klein dress, a guess handbag, silver jeans, abercrombie and fitch shirt... hardly low quality items. Just overstocked items at an affordable price. The people above posting have never been there or just enjoy paying inflated prices for the same goods.... interesting.
