Mehner votes against Ballpark Village incentives

Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO John Mehner of Cape Girardeau, a member of the Missouri Development Finance Board cast the lone vote Tuesday against a $17 million incentive package for the long-awaited Ballpark Village adjacent to Bush Stadium in St. Louis.

Work is expected to begin this fall on the 10-acre project, which has gone through numerous delays and modifications since it was proposed seven years ago when the old Busch Stadium was torn down.

Mehner has served on the Missouri Development Finance Board for five years.

He declined to discuss his decision Wednesday.

  • Thank you John for making the correct decision. The Cardinals are a private business and we as taxpayers have zero obligation to subsidize their business decisions.
