LETTERS: DENTISTS STEER CLEAR OF MEDICAID
(Letter to the Editor ~ 05/31/98)
To the editor: I am writing in regard to our dentists and medical coverage from public assistance in Missouri. I have a friend who has diabetes. Due to this disease, she has lost one of her eyes and has had to have a kidney transplant (thanks to a donation from her brother). KINDER'S COMMENTARY: GOLDWATER OF ARIZONA: IN YOUR HEART, YOU KNEW HE WAS RIGHT
(Column ~ 05/31/98)
Friday's passing of former Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater removes from the scene a man who was, for millions of us, a figure of heroic status. Barry "In Your Heart You Know He's Right" Goldwater, he of the square jaw and the heavy-rimmed dark glasses, was my original inspiration to get involved in politics and government. Handsome, blunt-spoken to a fault, ruggedly independent, Goldwater personified the revival of American conservatism decades before anyone ever suggested it was "cool."...

MISSOURI WATCH: CHARLIE, YOU OLD DICKENS YOU
(Column ~ 05/31/98)
Although he was writing about a society in existence nearly a century and a half earlier, Charles Dickens might just as well have been speaking of contemporary society when he wrote "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Today the early English novelist might not concede that his famed observation is more accurate at this moment than when he penned "A Tale of Two Cities" in 1859, but even a casual observer of our society in the dawning of both a new century and a new millennium will recognize its modern-day validity.. ...
