Financial tips topic of seminar in Jackson

Wachovia Securities will present a seminar for small business owners and retirees Thursday at the Jackson Chamber of Commerce office. Doug Miller of the St. Louis CPA firm MPP&W will offer suggestions about ways to save on taxes.

He will speak at noon in a program designed for retirees and then at 6 p.m. in a session for small-business owners.

Power plant in Southern Illinois honored

Southern Illinois Power Cooperative's coal-fired power plant was named one of the top 12 power plants in the world by Power Magazine. Power plants were selected for the award based on pioneering use of new technology, environmental stewardship and innovative business practices.

Nurses group celebrates its 30th anniversary

The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Missouri will mark 30 years of service as a home health-care provider.

The association is observing Home Care Aide Day Tuesday with cake and door prizes for staff. VNA offers services like private duty nursing, assistance for the elderly, disabled and terminally ill patients.

There are more than 500 home care VNA aides serving 15 counties in Southeast Missouri.
