Budrovich acquires assets of vessel repair and river service company

Budrovich of Scott City on Sept. 13 announced it signed a purchase agreement to buy the assets of St. Louis-based vessel repair and river service company Tubbs Marine/Humboldt Boat, according to a news release from the company.

Budrovich provides crane rental, excavation and grading, utility services and land development.

The purchase will allow the company to broaden support for its customer base and strengthen its role as a provider of hoisting and repair services, the release said.

"By the addition of the marine fleet working in conjunction with our current fleet of equipment and the highly skilled labor force, we will be able to afford the maritime customers of the area the highest level of service," said Jeff Budrovich, president of Budrovich, in the release.

Career Fair set for Oct. 24

The Cape Area Career Fair will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau, according to the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce.

Sponsors of the event are the chamber of commerce, Cape Girardeau Area Magnet, the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department and the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri.

Sunbelt celebrates opening

Sunbelt Environmental Services will celebrate its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, according to an email from the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce.

Among Sunbelt's services are hazardous waste transportation and disposal, emergency spill response, mold cleanup, asbestos surveys and abatement, radon sampling and mitigation and lead-based paint risk assessment and abatement, according to the email.

The ceremony will be at 1:30 p.m. at its location, 1267 N. Mount Auburn Road.

Playland opens with ribbon-cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday celebrated the opening of Melaina's Magical Playland, Cape Girardeau County's first all-inclusive, fully accessible playground, according to an email from the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce.

The playground was inspired by Jeff and Andrea Cunningham's daughter Melaina Cunningham, who was born with nemaline myopathy, a neuromuscular disease that causes muscle weakness. It was designed for people with all levels of physical ability. Melaina Cunningham died in 2009 because of complications of her disease.

Melaina's Magical Playland is a castle-themed playground in Cape County Park North, 2400 County Park Drive, that includes amenities such as a retaining wall with ramps that allow access to the highest levels of the playground, swings with arm and back support, flat rubber surfacing and safety fencing.

GT Performance Gymnastics and Cheer and CrossFit 573, between Clean Uniform and Perryville Machine Shop on Old Orchard Road in Jackson, broke ground Thursday, according to an email from the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tri-State AMP adds outdoor ad firm

Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals added Ad Works, an outdoor display company based in Poplar Bluff, Mo., as a media sponsor to assist with the Advertising for a Cause grant that was established to provide advertising assistance, production and media placement for regional public service organizations, according to a news release from Tri-State AMP. Ad Works donated $10,000, which increases the media grant to $170,000.

Seventeen regional media companies have donated $10,000 each for production or placement services to fund the $170,000 grant that is divided between two agencies and coordinated by Tri-State AMP, the release said.

Tri State AMP in May awarded Court Appointed Special Advocates and the Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging the $160,000 Advertising for a Cause grant. Tri-State AMP received applications for the grant from 35 regional public service organizations, the release said.

Tri-State AMP is a not-for-proft organization involving communications professionals in Cape Girardeau, Paducah, Ky., and Harrisburg, Ill.

First Missouri offers AARP products

First Missouri Insurance Group, a subsidiary of First Missouri State Bank, has been selected to offer The Hartford's AARP-branded auto insurance program, according to a news release from First Missouri State Bank.

First Missouri Insurance Group was chosen after satisfying a number of eligibility requirements, the release said, which included demonstrating a commitment to community service, meeting a high-level of business and ethical standards and completing a training program designed to address the needs of the 50-years-old and older population.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer The Hartford AARP auto insurance to our customers 50 and better," said Ken Oberlohr, president and agent of First Missouri Insurance Group, in the release.
