Southeast Missouri State University will celebrate Southeast Entrepreneurship Week beginning at noon Tuesday.
The last event of the week will be a ground-breaking for the future Creative Labs Incubator at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at 612 and 616 Broadway.
The Creative Labs Incubator is designed to give creative and artistic students the opportunity to design innovative products and service concepts in the Creative Launch Lab and test their business models in SOLE Creations, according to an email from Heather Holdman, project coordinator for the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Southeast.
The Creative Launch Lab will feature amenities such as a fashion studio, 3-D modeling and printing studio and a web- and application-development studio, the email said. SOLE Creations will feature a retail and fashion boutique and coffee bar and other amenities such as art galleries and an event venue, according to the email.
SoutheastHEALTH plans to build a 24-bed outpatient observation unit and a 12-bed pediatric emergency, observation and inpatient unit on the east side of Southeast Hospital, according to a news release from the hospital.
The pediatric area will be constructed next to the emergency room, and the outpatient observation unit will be built on the second floor of the addition, above the pediatric area, the release said.
The Cape Girardeau city council passed a resolution in support of the project.
SoutheastHEALTH is working with the Cape Girardeau County Industrial Development Authority to secure $40 million in bonds to fund the projects and refinance existing bonds used for capital improvements, according to the release.
SoutheastHEALTH vice president and chief financial officer Hugh King in the release said the funding won't create an obligation for the city, county or taxpayers.
The work is expected to be completed during the next year.
Elite Travel Inc. was recognized as a top producer for 2013 by Southwest Airlines Vacations, according to a news release from the travel agency.
Elite president Carolyn Kempf and travel consultant Jaime Stroder were among representatives of about 20 U.S. travel agencies recognized as top producers for 2012 by Southwest Airlines Vacations in Las Vegas, the release said.
This is the third time Elite Travel has received the recognition, Kempf said in the release, and the recognition was based on factors such as customer service and sales.
Stone Haus Costumes will celebrate its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, according to an email from the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce.
The ribbon-cutting will be at 11 a.m. at 21 S. Plaza Way in Cape Girardeau.
Stone Haus Costumes is a Halloween store that offers everything from costumes, masks, wigs and fangs to home decor, according to the email.
Stone Haus Costumes also has locations in Sikeston, Mo., and Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Deer Ridge Animal Hospital in Jackson now offers MLS Therapy Laser Treatment for its patients, according to an news release from the hospital.
Laser therapy offers benefits over traditional pain and mobility treatments, such as being able to deliver results painlessly, in less time, without side effects or risk and often without the use of drugs, according to the release. The laser allows a doctor to treat problems such as sore muscles and joints, degenerative joint conditions and neurological pain, the release said.
