Cheryl Robb-Welch is new executive director at the Safe House for Women Inc. in Cape Girardeau. Robb-Welch is one of three new employees at the Safe House. Dena Pehlman joined the organization as shelter director, and Emily McClernon joined the Safe House as a domestic violence counselor.

Robb-Welch, who has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Truman State University at Kirksville, has worked with the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department the past eight years, starting as a dispatcher, then as a patrol officer. She has received training in domestic violence, sexual assault investigation and child abuse investigation.

Pehlman, who has a bachelor's degree in psychology and criminal justice, has extensive education and training in domestic violence, family violence and juvenile delinquency.

McClernon, who earned her master's degree in social work from Southern Illinois University, has several years of experience working in the mental health field. She has attended the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic Violence Conference. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

Greg McNeely has joined Consolidated Insurance, 1707 N. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau, as an insurance representative.

McNeely, a Jackson native, is graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He worked in commercial property and casualty insurance sales in the St. Louis metropolitan area the past four years.

Michael Hopen has joined ERA Cape Realty sales staff at 1409-A N. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau as a sales associate.

Hopen has 14 years of sales experience. He is owner of Michael C. Hopen Insurance Service.

David S. Glastetter, broker-owner of the company, announced the new associate recently.

The ERA Franchise System Inc. includes 2,500 offices in the United States and abroad.

The Cape Girardeau Association of Life Underwriters has received the 1998 Louis I. Dublin Award, recognizing exemplary community involvement on the part of life insurance agents.

Ted Coalter, 1997-1998 past president of the local group, and Allen Phillips, president-elect, accepted the award at the National Association of Life Underwriters Convention recently held at Cincinnati. The award is sponsored by the NALU and the American Council of Life Insurance.

The award was crated in 1956 in honor of Dr. Louis I. Dublin, an expert on health and welfare, who advocated the personal involvement of life underwriters in meeting community needs.

The Cape Girardeau group was founded in 1962 and has 83 members.

John Layton, an attorney with the Vogel, Layton and Lewis law firm, and Dennis Vollink, president of Drury Southwest Development Corp., have been named members of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation Board.

William H. Kiel, executive director of the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation, announced the two newest board members at the foundation board's November meeting.

New board officers were also elected during the meeting. They were Jerry Lorberg, chairman; Ken Dobbins, vice-chairman and chairman elect; Danny Essner, secretary; and Kevin Govero, treasurer.

Lonnette M. Schwent and Holly Thomas of Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants, 1020 N. Kingshighway, recently completed special training.

Schwent, a staff accountant with the firm, completed the course, "Fraud Prevention, Detection and Audit," provided by the Missouri Society of CPAs. Schwent is a graduate of Lindenwood College, with a master's degree in business administration, and has worked as an accountant since 1996.

Thomas completed two courses in public accounting, "Mastering the Fundamentals of Estate Planning," at Nashville, Tenn., and "Complete Guide to Administration of Trusts and Estates," at Brentwood, Tenn. She earned continuing education credits for the courses, which were sponsored by the Tennessee Society of CPAs. Thomas, a CPA since 1986, is a member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants. She specializes in audits of retail businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

Donna J. Domian, a Cape Girardeau investment representative for Edwards Jones, was recently recognized by the firm for her job performance, ranking her among the top 5 percent of the company's representatives.

Domian was one of only 247 investment representatives from the more than 4,100 Jones brokers nationwide to receive the honor that qualified her to attend the annual Managing Partner's Conference at the company's headquarters in St. Louis.

Gene Kranz, former NASA director of Mission Operations, and Edward Hubbard, president and founder of Positive Vectors Inc., a management consulting company, were guest speakers at the conference.

Domian's branch office is at 1749 Independence in Cape Girardeau.

Linda M. Johnson of Scott City has received the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor.

Johnson has been in the insurance business 18 years and has worked with Johnson Insurance Group since 1990, working with the commercial accounts and accounting department. She serves as secretary of the corporation.

Johnson also holds the Certified Insurance Service Representative designation.

Robert L. Cheek of Procter and Gamble Paper Products was recently named "Executive of the Year" by the International Association of Administrative Professionals, formerly known as Professional Secretaries International.

The IAAP meets the third Tuesday of the month at Drury Lodge, at 6:30 p.m.

Twelve St. Francis Medical Center employees have been inducted into the St. Francis Quarter-Century Club.

The club is a recognition program for employees with 25 years of service. With the addition of 12 new employees, the Quarter Century Club now has 69 living members.

New members are:

Jeannie Fadler, vice president of patient care; Mike Farrar, stock keeper in Food and Nutrition Services; Sister Marie Felter, neurophysiology, retired; Diane Gammon, director of information systems; Ronnie Kinder, operating room quality technologist; Wilda Kitchen, business office, retired; Addie Markert, transport tech, Same Day Surgery; Angela Parks, LPN Patient Care; Gregory Pleimann, vice president, finance; Janie Raines, assistant manager, Food and Nutrition Services; Marcie Southard-Ritter, vice president of Patient Care; retired; and, Vickie Sadler, clinical specialist, Radiology.

The Tender Care Playhouse staff recently completed the American Heart Association course in Infant/Child CPR, presented by Kathy Casteel, a registered nurse and instructor at the St. Francis Medical Center Wellness Department.

Completing the course were Misty Duke, Amy Stephens, Bekki Altenthal, Diane Rommel, Michelle Roth, JoAnn Nance, Shelly Dietiker, Brenda Pfefferkorn and Teresa Fluegge.
