CHAMBER HONORS FARMERS

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Area farmers were honored Jan. 27 at a Farmer Recognition Luncheon hosted in conjunction with the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce's monthly meeting, reported the Sikeston Standard Democrat. Justin Landers was named Outstanding Young Farmer by the Sikeston Jaycees; Thomas E. "Jake" Fisher received the Agribusiness Service Award of the Year; and Melissa Silverthorn was named Farm Woman of the Year. Joe Heckemeyer accepted the Farm Family of the Year Award on behalf of himself, his parents Tony and Betty Heckemeyer and his brothers, Andrew and Matthew Heckemeyer.

DALE NAMED DIRECTOR OF COUNTY BOARD

Bob Dale was hired as executive director of the Cape Girardeau County Board for Developmental Disabilities, formerly known as the SB40 board. As of Jan. 1, Dale is responsible for overseeing distribution of the board's levy to existing programs and agencies that receive funding through Senate Bill 40. He will also review new requests for program funding and develop and implement new programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Dale has more than 20 years of experience working with people with disabilities.

CAPE CVB HAS NEW DIRECTOR

Dana Gordon is the new director of public relations and marketing at the Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is a recent graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, with a degree in public relations and marketing and experience in coordinating events. Gordon replaces Stephanie Lynch, who now serves as public relations account executive for the Missouri Division of Tourism at Hoffman Lewis Advertising Agency, St. Louis.

RED CROSS ADDS VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR

Ann Douglass-Click is the new volunteer services coordinator at the American Red Cross Southeast Missouri chapter. She works with volunteers in the 11-county service area of Perry, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Scott, Stoddard, Mississippi, New Madrid, Dunklin, Butler, Wayne and Pemiscot counties. Douglass-Click has worked with the developmentally disabled, in human resources and for the past two years for the Census Bureau.

Ronald "Shane" Webb, print press operator of Jackson, was employee of the month for January at Nordenia USA. He has been with the company since Feb. 7, 2000. BERNIE HIRES SUPERINTENDENT

BERNIE, Mo. -- The Bernie School Board will hire Douglas Ruck, a 23-year veteran in the educational field, as superintendent beginning with the 2011-12 school year, replacing current superintendent John Boyd. Ruck has been a school administrator for nine years, with the past three as superintendent in Vibernum, Mo.

PARK HILLS, Mo. -- David Danieley, American Family Insurance agent in Farmington, Mo., and Edward Felker, American Family Insurance agent in Bonne Terre, Mo., were recognized for customer satisfaction excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Insurance Agency Program, reported the Park Hills Daily Journal. HUTCHASON EARNS PLUS AWARD

EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Thadd Hutchason of Yellow Gold LLC received the Proven Leaders in Unmatched Service (PLUS) Certified Technician Award from Reinke Manufacturing Inc., a leading manufacturer of mechanized irrigation systems based in Deshler, Neb. The award is one of the most elite technical service designations awarded by Reinke. Hutchason qualified for the award during a Reinke service training session held in Deshler, where he completed a series of courses and received high marks on all tests.

STONE NAMED POLICE CHIEF

DEXTER, Mo. -- Sgt. Sammy Stone was appointed police chief of the Dexter Police Department. He has been with the department for 26 years and began serving as interim police chief in November, when chief Paul Haubold resigned.

ALSUP NAMED ASST. SUPERINTENDENT

DEXTER, Mo. -- Dr. Roger Alsup, current principal at T.S. Hill Middle School, will serve as assistant superintendent for Dexter School District beginning with the 2011-12 school year. Alsup has worked in the district for 20 years and will fill the role vacated by Bryce Matthews upon his retirement.

FOUR AWARDED CDA CREDENTIAL

ADVANCE, Mo. -- Janey Bailey, Brenda Marie Carnell, Sylvia Hankins and Angel Webb, employees at Advance Learning Center, were each awarded the child development associate credential in recognition of their outstanding work with young children. The credential was awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C.

CULLER APPOINTED TO STATE BOARD

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Robert Culler, Hayti, Mo., to the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority. The authority makes capital available to Missouri farmers, particularly independent producers, agribusinesses and small businesses at competitive interest rates on a scale to make a major impact. Culler, executive vice president and community business developer for First State Bank and Trust Company, was nominated for a term ending June 30, 2014.

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Janette Call, Perryville, was named to the Board of Examiners for Hearing Instrument Specialists. The board reviews applicants for licensure and makes recommendations to the Division of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration on matters of discipline of licenses. The board also reviews and approves other states with equivalent or stricter requirements for reciprocal licenses, approves the examination required for licensure and may administer the practical portion of the examination, and reviews and approves courses for continuing education credits required for license renewal. HALTER, GLENN COMPLETE U.S. CHAMBER PROGRAM

Steve Halter, director of the Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce, and Tracey Glenn, vice president for organization and leadership development at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, each completed the Institute for Organization Management program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The professional development program is a comprehensive course of study with four annual sessions that focus on professional growth and development for association, chamber and other not-for-profit professionals. Graduates of the institute receive IOM recognition signifying their completion of 96 hours of course instruction in not-for-profit management. They can also earn points toward the Certified Chamber Executive or Certified Association Executive certifications.

CAPE ART TEACHERS HONORED BY STATE

Sharon Williams and Elizabeth Thomas, longtime art teachers with the Cape Girardeau School District, were recently recognized for the ultimate in education excellence from the Missouri Art Education Association. Thomas was named 2011 Art Educator of the Year, and Williams was named Missouri Retired Art Educator of the Year. They have been invited to the state and national conventions in March to receive their recognition. The Missouri Art Education Association each year accepts nominations honoring outstanding art educators in 10 categories.

Wes Kinsey, co-owner of My Daddy's Cheesecake, Cape Girardeau, has retired. Co-owners Kevin and Susan Stanfield hosted a retirement reception for him on Jan. 29. Kinsey has been baking and decorating cakes since 1973 and became owner of My Daddy's Cheesecake in 1996. My Daddy's has a second location in Clayton, Mo.
