__MONDI JACKSON HONORS EMPLOYEES__

Anthony Watson of Jackson was employee of the month for May at Mondi Jackson LLC. Watson, a material handler, has worked at Mondi since July 15, 1996. Mondi Jackson also recognizes the following employment anniversaries: Ronald Palisch, Brenda West and Shawn Vogt, 25 years of service; Barbara Lewis, 10 years; and Jay Oliver, five years.

__CHRONISTER PROMOTED TO CREATIVE SERVICES DIRECTOR__

Rob Chronister was promoted to creative services director for the television stations FOX23 and MY49. Since 2001, he was production manager and director of operations for the two stations. In his new position, he will oversee commercial production and station promotion.

__HOWARD PROMOTED AT U.S. BANK__

U.S. Bank in Cape Girardeau promoted Gary L. Howard Jr. as market president over the commercial lending team. Howard will supervise the commercial team and business development in the Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Sikeston, Marble Hill, Perryville and Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, markets. He has been with U.S. Bank since 2011, most recently as a credit analyst manager in Cape Girardeau. He is based at the U.S. Bank office at 325 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. Howard, a Sikeston native, graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and lives in the Cape Girardeau area.

__GLACKIN NAMED DEAN OF KENT LIBRARY__

Barbara Glackin, assistant university librarian for resource services and technology and associate professor at the Branford P. Millar Library at Portland State University, has been named dean of Kent Library at Southeast Missouri State University. She will begin her new position July 18. She replaces Catherine Roeder, who has served in the interim since last summer, when Dr. David Starrett, dean of academic information services, left to become provost at Columbia College. Glackin has worked in library services for nearly 30 years. She has been at Portland State University the past three years managing acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, electronic and continuing resources and library technologies. She previously was associate dean of public services, head of cataloging and online catalog and associate professor at Albertsons Library at Boise State University; assistant professor and cataloging/technical services librarian at Leonard H. Axe Library at Pittsburg (Kansas) State University; and technical services librarian in library services at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa. She has a Master of Library Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts from Briar Cliff College in Sioux City.

__ARNOLD JOINS CATHOLIC CHARITIES__

Melinda Arnold is the new director of development at Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri. Her duties include stimulating financial support for the organization, cultivating community awareness and strengthening relationships with Catholic parishes of the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, churches of other denominations and other social-service organization partners. Arnold has a professional background in not-for-profit leadership, having spent 21 years as the marketing director for Friends of the Zoo at Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield, Missouri.

__COPELAND APPOINTED TO STATE COUNCIL__

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Gov. Jay Nixon appointed Gary W. Copeland of Farmington, Missouri, to the Missouri Statewide Independent Living Council. The council develops and submits the State of Missouri’s plan required by the Rehabilitation Act. That federal legislation authorizes the formula grant programs of vocational rehabilitation, supported employment, independent living and client assistance, according to a news release. The council also will monitor, review and evaluate the implementation of the state plan. Copeland is the founding board chair of L.I.F.E. Inc. Center for Independent Living in Farmington, and has been with the center since 1996 as a community access specialist and an independent living specialist. He has completed the University of Missouri’s training certification for ADA coordinators. The governor appointed him for a term ending Oct. 29, 2017.

__THOMPSON EARNS SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION__

Shannon Thompson, sales manager at Elite Travel Inc. in Gape Girardeau, completed Sandals Resorts’ Certified Sandals Specialist program. CSS designation is given to travel professionals who complete a rigorous education and training program on a yearly basis, covering all facets of Sandals and Beaches Resorts.

__VAUGHN JOINS CAPE CARS__

Greg Vaughn is an automotive sales and technology consultant at Cape Cars Auto Group LLC, 2856 Sappington Drive in Jackson. He specializes in helping clients find the right pre-owned automobile, as well as performing technical help and photography for the group. Vaughn has more than 25 years of retail electronics experience.

__HOLLERBACH SELECTED FOR LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE__

Dr. Karie Hollerbach, professor and chair of the Department of Mass Media at Southeast Missouri State University, was selected to participate in the 2016-2017 class of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication’s (AEJMC) Institute for Diverse Leadership in Journalism and Communication. She is one of eight AEJMC members chosen from a nationwide competitive application process to participate in the institute, which is co-sponsored by AEJMC and the Association of Schools of Journalism and Mass Communication, according to a news release from Southeast. The purpose of the institute is to increase racial, gender and ethnic diversity in administrative and other senior-level positions in journalism and communication education through a yearlong mentoring and professional development program. Fellows will convene for the first time during AEJMC’s national conference in August and will participate in other sessions throughout the year.

__MOLDENHAUER OBTAINS HR CERTIFICATION__

PERRYVILLE, Mo. — Hanna Moldenhauer, employee benefits coordinator at Robinson Construction Co., completed the HRcertification.com Cafeteria Plan Training & Certification Program and earned the Certified Cafeteria Plan Administrator designation, according to a news release. Upon completion of the program, Moldenhauer was required to pass an examination to earn the designation.

__CUBA FINANCIAL TEAM ATTENDS WEALTH PROGRAM__

Rick and Tyler Cuba of Cuba Financial Group in Cape Girardeau recently attended Wealth Management University at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The program is exclusive to First Allied and the network of Cetera Financial Group. The two certified wealth strategists took a masters course in advising clients and their families through emotional times. While there, Rick Cuba gave a presentation to more than 150 advisers on the topic of “Growth in a Changing Industry.”

__REUTZEL JOINS ELEMENT 74__

Aja Reutzel joined Element 74 in Cape Girardeau as a support specialist. He is pursuing a degree in mass communications with an emphasis on public relations at Southeast Missouri State University.

SIKESTON, Mo. — Buddy Alberson, technology coordinator in the Scott County School District, accepted a position as assistant director of data for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Jefferson City beginning June 1, the Sikeston Standard Democrat reported. Alberson, who also was the high school business instructor and FBLA and yearbook adviser, began working at Scott County Central as the elementary computer teacher eight years ago.

__THOMAS JOINS DUNCAN & PIERCE__

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Ressie L. Thomas is a new associate at the law firm of Duncan & Pierce. She earned degrees in economics and Spanish from the University of Central Arkansas and her juris doctorate from the University of Arkansas School of Law. She maintains her license to practice law in Arkansas and was admitted to the Missouri Bar on April 12.

__UNITED WAY WELCOMES NEW EMPLOYEES__

United Way of Southeast Missouri added Donna Noe and Kristin Funderburk to the organization. The changes to staffing come from the departure of two former United Way employees, Melissa Stickel and Nicholle Hinkle, according to a news release. Noe joins the team as operations manager. She has experience in varying management and administrative roles, most recently as director of client support at MedAssets. She also worked in accounting at Procter & Gamble and at Mondi Jackson. In her new role, she will assist executive director Elizabeth Shelton in governance, administrative matters, strategic business planning and organizational change efforts. She also will be accountable for back office functions, including risk management and facility management. Funderburk, a recent graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, was hired as community relations manager. She previously completed marketing and communications internships at Saint Francis Healthcare System and the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce. In her new role, she will work to develop, retain and grow the level of financial support and commitment to United Way of Southeast Missouri.

__TIMLIN NAMED DIRECTOR OF INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION__

Kevin Timlin, director of the International Programs Office at Northern Michigan University, was named executive director of international education and services at Southeast Missouri State University. He will begin his new role July 5, where he will be charged with leading international student services, sponsored student programs, international study abroad and exchange programming, and English language programs. He also will be responsible for Southeast’s international student recruitment program, will serve on the university’s Strategic Enrollment Management team and maintain relationships with Southeast’s overseas partners. Timlin replaces Zahir Ahmed, who assumed the new role of associate director of international student recruitment at Southeast. Timlin has been involved in international education for more than 15 years.

__PARHAM NAMED TO NEW ROLE AT U.S. BANK__

Josh Parham was announced as the new relationship manager for the commercial lending team at U.S. Bank. He has been with the bank since 2010, most recently as a commercial-credit analyst. He will be based out of the office at 325 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. Parham is a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and lives in the Jackson area.

__CAPE NATIVE HIRED AS GOVERNMENT RELATIONS SPECIALIST__

Gamble & Schlemeier LTD added David Jackson to the firm’s roster of government relations specialists in June. Jackson, a Cape Girardeau native, began his career as Missouri’s youngest registered lobbyist at age 19 and has spent the past decade working under veteran issue-advocate Travis H. Brown at Pelopidas LLC. He climbed the ranks within the firm and has served as managing partner of the Gate Way Group division since 2012.

__SHEETS JOINS DILLE TRAXEL__

Jordan Sheets is an architectural intern in the Cape Girardeau office of Dille Traxel Architecture. He earned a degree in interior design from the University of Missouri – Columbia and is pursuing his master of architecture degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
