Stereo One Inc. of Cape Girardeau has purchased the assets of Planet Car-Fi in Springfield.

Planet Car-Fi is Springfield's leading mobile electronics (car audio) dealership and shares in many of the product lines offered by Stereo One, such as Alpine, Clarion, Rockford Fosgate, Boston Acoustics and Viper auto security.

The acquisition will double Stereo One's car audio business in 1998.

Rick Snelson will be general manger of the Springfield operation, and Cape Girardeau associate John Payne will oversee multi-store functions as district manager.

The Springfield market, according to Stereo One president, John Selby, will "allow us to purchase programs simply not available to smaller market dealerships."

Grand opening of the new Springfield facility will held within six weeks. Stereo One, established in 1980, operated a full-line consumer electronics store in Cape Girardeau, with car, audio, home audio, video and security, and a car audio specialty store in Carbondale, Ill.
