Top agent joins Century 21 Ashland

Doris Jean Arnold, the No. 1 sales agent in production for Cape Girardeau County Multi-List Service for 2002, has joined Century 21 Ashland Realty Co. as a broker associate.

Arnold is a repeated Centurion agent for Century 21 and has previously achieved lifetime Hall of Fame achievement awards with RE/MAX International in Denver, Colo., for her continued sales production in 1988. In 2002, Arnold's sales production exceeded $9.2 million in gross sales.

Arnold specializes in residential, commercial, investment and new construction. Arnold is a Pinnacle Award winner of the Missouri Association of Realtors. She is a member of the National Board of Realtors, as well as local boards.

Sikeston man named 'Friend of the University'

A Sikeston, Mo., businessman has been named the 2003 "Friend of the University" by the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

University president Dr. Ken Dobbins will present the award April 26 to Don Bedell, who is chairman of the board of Health Facilities Management Corp., at the annual President's Council dinner at the Show Me Center.

The Friend of the University Award recognizes those who support and who are closely associated with the mission, purposes, plans and programs of the university. It is the highest honor bestowed by the university foundation.

In fall 2001, Bedell made a seven-figure gift to the university foundation to support the establishment of a premier performance hall at the River Campus. The hall, which is expected to be the crown jewel of the River Campus, will be named in Bedell's honor. His gift is the largest single cash gift in the 18-year history of the university foundation.

Huey relocates to Elan Day Spa in Cape

Don Huey, formerly from Scandals in Sikeston, Mo., has relocated to Elan Day Spa and Esthetic Center in Cape Girardeau.

Huey specializes in hair coloring and styling and has studied in Europe with Vidal Sassoon.

Schroeder appointed to cancer program

Dr. Walter A. Schroeder Jr. of Cape Girardeau recently received a three-year appointment as cancer liaison physician for the Hospital Cancer Program at St. Francis Medical Center. The program is an integral part of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

Schroeder is among a national network of more than 1,600 volunteer cancer liaison physicians who provide leadership and support.

Avon businesswoman earns top distinction

Earlene Hahs, a Cape Girardeau native, has joined 44 other regional Avon district managers in receiving the 2002 Circle of Excellence Award, a designation reserved for managers who posted the largest sales increase versus sales plan. Hahs and the other managers will enjoy an all-expenses paid vacation as a reward for their efforts.

Hahs began selling Avon in 1983.

Rouse named Student of the Year by college

Steve Rouse of Fredericktown, Mo., recently received the prestigious award for "Student of the Year" by the Missouri Association of Private Career Schools. Rouse currently attends Metro Business College in Cape Girardeau, where he will be obtaining a degree as a business computer specialist.

The faculty of Metro Business College nominated Rouse by submitting an essay describing why he should be nominated for the Student of the Year award. Rouse's perfect attendance since December 2001 and his 4.0 GPA were key factors, along with his first place performance at the Professional Business Leaders state competition held in March.

Rouse was presented with the Student of the Year award at the 16th annual MAPCS convention in St. Louis on April 11.

Robinson nominated to state chiropractic board

Gov. Bob Holden nominated Julie Robinson of Cape Girardeau to the Missouri State Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

Robinson, 28, is an emergency room nurse at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She earned a bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University. The Missouri State Board of Chiropractic Examiners licenses chiropractors, regulates the profession of chiropractic examiners and reviews applications for licensure to determine an applicant's qualifications.

Robinson replaces Charlotte Hill, who resigned.
