Two Southeast Missourian news reporters are changing beats. Scott Moyers, who has been covering the Cape Girardeau government and local politics beat, will be reporting on crime, courts and breaking news. Erin Ragan, who had previously covered education, will take over the city and political beat. "It's fairly common for reporters to change beats throughout their careers to get a change of scenery," said editor Bob Miller. "It's healthy for reporters to expand their work experience and knowledge, and both of them are looking forward to their new responsibilities. Scott and Erin have done a good job in their previous roles, and I'm excited to see what they will bring to their new positions." Moyers has worked about 15 years in the newspaper industry, including 10 with the Southeast Missourian. He is familiar with the crime beat, having worked it early in his career. Ragan joined the Southeast Missourian staff in June 2011 as a reporter for Jackson and Cape Girardeau County government.

Bagby Investment Consultants becomes an independent firm

Mike Bagby
Mike Bagby

Mike Bagby, senior investment adviser and owner of Bagby Investments Consultants in Dexter, Mo., has transitioned his business from being an independent branch office of LPL Financial to being an independent firm. Bagby Investment Consultants LLC, a registered investment adviser, under LPL Financal's hybrid registered investment adviser program. In essence, the business will now be an independent company and will be under the state of Missouri legal and regulatory authorities. To clients and the community, there will be very little change noticed in the way the business is operating, Bagby said. Bagby Investment Consultants has been a RIA since 1994. But due to various financial industry regulations, Bagby has been conducting advisery services under LPL Financial's RIA. Now, with LPL Financial's newly formed hybrid RIA program, Bagby Investment Consultants can function fully as an independent RIA with LPL Financial as the custodian. The only major difference is that clients will have an investment advisery contract with Bagby Investment Consultants LLC instead of with LPL Financial. Bagby Investment Consultants also actually manages client's investments on a day-to-day basis according to a tactical propriety model Bagby designed in 2007.
