Grocer inducted into association hall of fame

Lester Maevers has been inducted into the Missouri Grocers Association Hall of Fame during the group's annual convention on Aug. 24 at Osage Beach.

Maevers was selected for the distinction by a committee of his peers from across the state, representing all aspects of the grocery industry. He was chosen based on his long record of contributions to the grocery industry in Missouri.

The Maevers enterprise, which began in 1968, is currently made of three Save-A-Lot stores in Southeast Missouri and commercial property in Jackson, Cape Girardeau, Chaffee and Sikeston.

The Missouri Grocers Association is a non-profit, statewide organization based in Springfield, Mo. It represents about 1,500 retailers, wholesalers, brokers, distributors, vendors, suppliers and manufacturers that make up the state's grocery industry.

Doctor presents lecture to medical society

Dr. Tom Critchlow recently presented a lecture on photorejuvenation to the Kansas City Otolaryngology Society as well as to ENT Meeting at the Missouri State Medical Association General Meeting in St. Louis. Photorejuvenation is a new technique used to revitalize sun-damaged skin without down time.

Critchlow is the medical director of the Esthetic Centre in Cape Girardeau at 3065 Auburn Park Place, Suite 101.

Three CPAs attend development course

Certified public accountants Connie Brown, Cheryl Morris and Michael Radake recently attended a course on accounting and auditing current developments. The three CPAs are with Schott & Van de Ven.

The CPAs received a comprehensive review of recent accounting and auditing changes. Brown, Morris and Radake have extensive experience in auditing local governments, schools and not-for-profit organizations. Brown serves as audit manager for the firm.

Koerber joins Studio Designs Salon

Sarah Koerber has taken a position at Studio Designs in Cape Girardeau as a stylist. Koerber had worked at Eugene's. Studio Designs is at 229 S. Broadview.

Peters accredited to install new system

John Peters of Peters Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., in Cape Girardeau has been accredited by the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association. After an extensive training course, Peters can install geothermal heat pump systems.

GHP systems use modern technologies to harness the stored energy of the earth. This takes advantage of the earth's relatively constant ground temperature to provide consistent heating and cooling to buildings.

ABF driver honored at safety dinner

ABF Freight Systems Inc. has honored James Foeste at an ABF safety dinner celebrating Cape Girardeau road drivers for having the best safety record in 2001 for all of the ABF Freight System. All the Cape Girardeau drivers combined for 3.1 million miles in 2001 without an accident.

Foeste was singled out for honors because he personally drove over 3 million miles accident-free during his 34 years behind the wheel. Foeste has driven for ABF for 29 of those years -- 23 years in Cape Girardeau and six years at Springfield, Ill.
