St. Louis contractors union support proposed cement plant

Letter to Gov. Bob Holden

Dear Governor Holden:

At a recent meeting of the St. Louis Area Contractors (SLAC), a Resolution of Support for the proposed construction of the cement plant by Holcim (US) Inc. in Ste. Genevieve County was adopted. SLAC consisted of nine construction industry associations, including:

Associated General Contractors

American Subcontractors Association

Mason Contractors Association of St. Louis

Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Missouri

Missouri Association of Plumbing, Heating, Cooling Contractors

National Electrical Contractors Association

Painting & Decorating Foundation

Sheet Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors National Association-St. Louis Chapter

SITE Improvement Association

Governor, we have enclosed this resolution in order to inform you about the importance of this construction plan to our organization. We strongly believe in supporting job and economic growth opportunities, and feel that this facility will provide both throughout the state of Missouri.

Holcim, during a recent presentation to SLAC, reiterated their commitment toward protecting the environment and such commitment was strongly considered in support of the project.

We hope you take the time to read this resolution and we ask that you direct the Department of Natural Resources to issue the necessary permits so that construction can begin on this important economic development opportunity.
