'Jammin' for Jesus' concert at La Croix Church

Local Christian artists will perform at a "Jammin' for Jesus" concert at La Croix Church in The Porch, 3102 Lexington Ave., tonight. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the concert will run from 6 to 9 p.m. The concert, presented by Love in the Name of Christ, will feature Andy Cutrell, Renovate, Praisers of Soulful Harvest and Barefoot on Sunday. Concessions will be available. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Love in the Name of Christ, 225 Sheridan Drive; LifeWay Christian Store, 125 Siemers Drive; or online at www.LoveINCsemo.org. Tickets also will be sold at the door.

Safari Playland opens in Jackson

Safari Playland recently opened at 529 W. Main St. in Jackson. This play and party zoo is a division of Lazy L Safari Park, which is a walk-through zoo in Cape Girardeau. Safari Playland is a part of educational programs offered by Lazy L and teaches families about animals. Safari Playland features zones where children can pretend and play in various animal-themed areas. Play zones will rotate different animal-based themes throughout the year. Movie night features 'Beaver Pond'

CYPRESS, Ill. -- Continuing its series on "Game Species: More Than Just Food," the Cache River Wetlands Center this month will present the National Geographic movie, "Rocky Mountain Beaver Pond," from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The AmeriCorps staff will hold a short discussion about the movie and give away one free T-shirt after each session. 500-plus students to perform at jazz festival

The 15th annual Clark Terry/Phi Mu Alpha Jazz Festival will be held Feb. 8 and 9 at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. More than 500 students in 24 jazz ensembles from the bi-state region will perform for three jazz experts, receive written and recorded comments and participate in a live clinic session. The bands may be heard from 8:25 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Bedell Performance Hall. Admission is free to this daytime event. Coupled with this festival will be the annual gala concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8, featuring jazz pianist Reggie Thomas performing with Southeast's jazz ensembles.
