Garden Gallery raises funds for Safe House
In honor of Mother's Day the Garden Gallery, at the corner of Broadway and Pacific Street in Cape Girardeau, will give 20 percent of money from items sold from Monday through Friday to the Safe House for Women and CASA. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 332-7123.
The Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau will sponsor a storytelling workshop called "The Lure of Love: The Importance of Remembering and Preserving Family Stories" from 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 15 at the CVB office. Participants can learn how to capture family stories. Professional storyteller Lynn Rubright will present the workshop. For more information, call 335-1631.
The Cape Central Orchestra will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Central Junior High auditorium. Musical selections include "American Reel," "A Place in the Heart," "Sheebeg and Sheemore" -- an old Irish folk tune -- and "The Curse of the Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space." Local filmmakers will hold a casting call on May 13 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Filmmakers are looking for cast and crew to participate in independent films to be submitted in film festivals like the 48 Hour Film Festival in St. Louis in June. Saturday the Red House Interpretive Center will open a new exhibit called "The Lorimiers: A MZtis Trader Family on the Missouri Frontier" during regular hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment. This Sunday the Cape Girardeau Conservation Campus Nature Center will hold a program on Lewis and Clark called "To the Great Western Ocean and Back" from 2 to 3 p.m. George Drouillard impersonator Grady Manus will be on hand to show children what life was like for the Corps of Discovery.
