Mark Ponder of Jackson submitted a photo of his tattoo by Ryan at Suburban 177 in Chicago. "I wanted to do something to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11/01, those who put their lives on the line to rescue those trapped, and ultimately those who fight the battle still to protect us from something of this magnitude again," Ponder said. "I knew I wanted to incorporate a cross, and seeing the picture of the cross made of steel beams at Ground Zero inspired the tattoo. I also wanted to show the pride that I have for the greatest country in the world, so I put the flag across the arms of the cross, with the twin towers silhouetted in the background and the orange glow signifying us emerging from the flames and ash, united and determined to rid the world of this type of evil. I never want to forget the range of emotions that I felt that day and the ensuing days and to remember the pride that I felt watching people helping people."
