Already well-established in Farmington, Mo., Branding Iron BBQ has been serving "hometown barbecue with affordable pricing" at its Jackson location for nearly two years.

And so far, the people of Jackson seem to be loving the Branding Iron's secret recipe developed over 20 years.

"One of our partners is from Jackson, and he really wanted to bring the restaurant here," said Malichia Hunt, restaurant manager. "It's worked out real well for us. Right now there are hopes for more expansion but no real plans."

The Branding Iron, 1903 E. Jackson Blvd., prides itself on popularity with families.

"This is a family restaurant," Hunt said. "We try to accommodate anyone that comes in and we try to be friendly, but we're looking for that family atmosphere here. And we have the space to accommodate big groups as well, like wedding receptions, dinner parties, birthday parties, things like that."

The Branding Iron also has a successful catering business, filling an average of 10 orders per day in December, including one at Southeast Missouri Hospital for more than 2,000 people.

But with no shortage of barbecue restaurants in Southeast Missouri, what makes the Branding Iron unique?

"It's the spice that's 20 years in the making," said head chef John Felton. "It's the best around this area. The preparation that goes into the food is unmatched as well, and when the preparation is right ... your food is better."

Considering the popularity of their specialty -- barbecue ribs -- it's hard to argue with Felton.

Open seven days a week, the Branding Iron is always full of activity around noon and 6 p.m. every day. The restaurant opens every day at 11 a.m., but closes at 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday.
