Volunteers took over the normal duties at the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau so the full-time staffers could spend Christmas with their families.

This is the second year that Krosunger, who lives in State College, Pa., has volunteered at the shelter on Christmas while visiting family in Cape Girardeau.
