Straight line winds hit Cape Girardeau County in the early morning hours Thursday, October 17, 2007.

Chris Swan remarked to Brian Wingerter that although a tree took out the shed behind their home on Henderson in north Cape Girardeau Thursday morning, October 18, 2007, it had spared the lawn mower.  "But it deflated two of the tires," Swan said.  Wingerter laughed and said he thought they were already that way.

Chris Wissmann chatted with his neighbors, the McCrites, while waiting for an insurance adjuster to arrive and access the damage incurred by the large maple tree that fell into the back of his home Thursday morning, October 18, 2007, in the 1500 block of West End Boulevard.  Wissmann had just recently moved a new motorcycle away from a spot where the tree hit his driveway.

High winds early Thursday toppled a neighbor's pine tree onto a 2007 Dodge parked in the driveway of Brian Anderson's house at 2620 Marvin in Cape Girardeau. "It happened at 3:15 last night," Anderson said. The tree struck another vehicle next to it, which helped absorb the impact from the house which sustained only minor damage. Anderson's personal loss wasn't as bad as it looked. "It's a company car," he said of the Dodge, while on the phone checking on his insurance. (Fred Lynch)
