Lightning eventually lit up the sky over the Cape Girardeau SportsPlex. The summer breeze grew cooler as I sat on a boulder with camera on tripod on August 3, 2017.

"Make change happen in the community." Koreena Woodson, co-chair, of Authentic Voices had said describing what she wants to do for the south side. Over 200 people came out to Indian Park throughout the day from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a kid dance contest at 4:30 p.m. Free food and face painting was available for anyone to attend and even the Cape Girardeau Fire Department came out and allowed kids to sit and look inside of a fire truck. Woodson said the point of the event was to bring the community together dance and have fun.
