People heading from East Cape Girardeau, Illinois, to Cape Girardeau have been dealing with a wet commute. Many are parking vehicles along a dry area of Illinois Route 146 leading toward the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge and then finding various ways to navigate a flooded portion of Route 146 between the bridge and East Cape Girardeau.

The mother and son have been parking a vehicle at the edge of floodwaters to travel to work in Cape Girardeau. "We have come to work every day so it's at least two trips [through the water]," Cindy said of their routine for most days.
