Over 100 cars made it past the Great Race checkpoint on Main Street in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. The race is a 3,000-mile journey across the country, with various stops across seven states. Three natives from Cape Girardeau took part in the race this year - Kenny Foeste, Ted McClellan and Thom Hopen. Race participants only drove cars built in or prior to 1974. The challenge of the race is for drivers to stay on course with as few repairs, break-downs or delays as possible. The last time Cape Girardeau hosted the race was in 2013.
