Union Pacific Railroad’s Big Boy No. 4014 made a brief stop in Scott City Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at the Oak Street crossing along Main Street near the Scott City Museum. A large crowd of spectators gathered to see the locomotive, which is one of 25 “Big Boys” built between 1941 and 1944 by American Locomotive Co. and is said to be the largest and most powerful steam locomotive in the world weighing 1.2 million pounds. Big Boy’s 30-minute stop in Scott City was part of a month-long tour of 10 states, including Arkansas, Colorado, Texas and more.
